Submit Music for Review
Srutio Social reviews music. Not press releases about music. Not Spotify links wrapped in adjectives written by someone who has never held a guitar. Not AI-generated one-sheets that describe every album as “a genre-defying sonic journey.” Music. The actual sound waves. The thing the artist spent months or years building before the marketing department got involved.
This publication covers progressive rock, progressive metal, psychedelic rock, and whatever refuses to respect the borders between them. The editorial scope may expand over time, but the standard will not. The writing here treats every album as an argument worth examining on its structural merits. That process cannot begin with a compressed preview stream on a platform that has already made decisions about what the listener is allowed to hear.
Why Actual Audio Files Are Required
Streaming platforms are convenient. They are also liars. Not malicious ones. Efficient ones. And efficiency, when applied to audio, means removing the parts of the sound that an algorithm has decided the average listener will not miss.
Every major streaming platform applies lossy compression to the audio it delivers. Spotify encodes at a maximum of 320 kbps OGG Vorbis, even on its Premium tier. Apple Music delivers 256 kbps AAC. YouTube compresses further still. Each of these formats achieves its small file size by permanently discarding audio data, specifically the frequencies, harmonics, and micro-dynamics that the codec deems perceptually redundant. For casual listening, the loss is inaudible. For analytical review, it is not.
Here is why this matters for what Srutio Social does.
A progressive metal band layers seven guitar tracks with deliberate harmonic interference between them. On a lossless file, those interactions are audible. On a 256 kbps stream, the codec has smoothed them into a single smeared midrange. The review would describe a wall of sound where the artist intended a lattice. That is not a review. That is a misdiagnosis.
A psychedelic rock record uses stereo field manipulation as a compositional device, placing melodic fragments at specific positions in the stereo image so they resolve differently on headphones versus monitors. Lossy compression narrows the stereo field. The compositional device disappears. The reviewer hears a mono-adjacent mix and calls it flat. The artist reads the review and knows the reviewer never heard the album.
A producer masters a record with 12 dB of dynamic range because the quiet passages are architecturally essential. The streaming platform applies loudness normalisation, compressing the dynamics to conform to a target LUFS. The quiet passages are no longer quiet. The architecture collapses. The reviewer describes a record that is “unrelenting” when the artist designed it to breathe.
A band records a concept album where the silence between tracks is measured to the tenth of a second. The streaming platform inserts its own gap, or removes the gap entirely and crossfades. The pacing, which the artist treated as a compositional element, is destroyed before the reviewer presses play.
An album is regionally restricted on a streaming platform due to licensing agreements the artist may not even be aware of. The reviewer clicks the link and gets a blank page. The submission is dead on arrival through no fault of the music.
A pre-release submission is not yet on any streaming platform. The artist sends a Spotify link that will go live in three weeks. The review window closes before the link opens.
None of these are hypothetical. All of them have happened. All of them are preventable by sending the actual audio file.
What to Send
The submission should include:
Artist or band name. Release title. Release date or expected release date. A brief description of the project (two to three sentences is sufficient; the music will do the rest of the talking). A download link to the actual audio files in MP3 (320 kbps minimum), WAV, or FLAC format. A Dropbox link works. A Google Drive link works. A Bandcamp download code works and is actively encouraged because Bandcamp preserves the artist’s intended format and metadata.
Press kits and high-resolution artwork are welcome but not required. If the music is strong enough, the press kit is a formality.

Before Submitting, Read This
Srutio Social receives more submissions than it can review. That is a statement of capacity, not a complaint. Time and bandwidth are finite. Every album reviewed on this publication receives the same analytical treatment: multiple full listens, structural analysis, and a written examination that takes the work seriously enough to disagree with it where disagreement is warranted.
That standard takes time. And that time means not every submission will result in coverage. The absence of a response does not indicate a judgment on the quality of the music. It indicates a limitation on the hours in a day.
The following applies to all submissions:
Submission does not guarantee coverage. There is no timeline for review. If a submission is selected for coverage, the resulting review reflects the honest editorial assessment of the publication. That assessment may be critical. Srutio Social does not write favourable reviews in exchange for access, exclusivity, or any other consideration. There is no pay-for-play arrangement. There never will be.
Submitting music grants Srutio Social permission to stream, reference, and discuss the submitted material for editorial purposes. Srutio Social does not claim ownership of submitted music and will not redistribute submitted audio files.
All submitted audio files are stored securely during the review consideration period and deleted within 90 days of the decision not to cover a submission. Files for reviewed albums are retained for archival reference.
